The Dülon Paradis Project

Friedrich Ludwig Dülon, born in Oranienburg, Germany August 14, 1769,
was a virtuosic flutist who traveled all over Europe from a young age as well as composing music for the flute. One flute concerto, 6 flute duets , flute and viola duets and 11 Caprices have survived. He wrote an autobiography after coming back to Germany following several years working as a court musician in St. Petersburg, Russia. The autobiography is a wonderful glimpse into his life, and the person he was. Dülon died July 7th, 1826.
Dülon owned and played several flutes over his lifetime.
He mentions a Kirst flute from Potsdam, a Tölke flute from Brunswick, a Genser flute from Dresden a Rübock flute and a flute by Trommlitz. Some of these flutes (not Specifically Dülons flutes but those from the flute makers) are in collections like this Kirst Flute from the Met Museum.
Notice that flutes from that era had several middle sections to be in tune in different places. That's a story for a different post! Also the flutes of the time started as a one keyed flute in the early 1700's and by 1800 the typical flute had 6 keys (a mechanism to open or close a hole)
